I would rather pay a one-off fee than a subscription, but it is very cheap and hardly anything really. If you choose to pay yearly, it is £4.19 here in the UK, which works out at £0.35 a month (around US $5.80 a year or $0.48 a month). A few effects in each section are free, but others require an app subscription.

LensFx is a free Windows app and in each of the sections, Light Hits, Overlays and Nature, there are many filter effects. Some effects suit one type of photo, like a landscape, some suit other types, like people shots or indoors. I like LensFx a lot and there are so many effects to experiment with, you can spend hours with it. I suspect it does keep the original size in the paid app, but even if it doesn’t, the free app’s 1200 pixels is a decent size for sharing on social media sites or for use on websites in blogs and so on. I certainly hope so, but I could find no mention of this. This could be a limitation of the free version I used and maybe paying enables photos to be saved at the source resolution. It saves as a JPEG, but it resizes images to 1200 pixels wide. Compare the first photo with the third to see my clumsy efforts at photo effects. You can have a lot of fun experimenting with effects and if you don’t like an effect or want to start again, the layer can simply be deleted and a new one added. For example, you could add a light source, zoom in or out to make it the size you want, rotate it to point in the direction you need, set the opacity so it is slightly see-through and adjust the color. Once you get the hang of it, quite a lot can be done with these photo effects. In each of these subcategories are many photo effects and the first five are free, which makes around 50 different effects in the free app. Overlays has Luminary, Legacy, Eclipse and Shimmer. Corrections are applied to the whole photo and cannot be restricted to a certain area, meaning this is no Photoshop rival, but it is quick and easy to use and great for casual use when you need to fix photos. LensFx is a useful photo enhancer that can be used to improve the look of photos or correct problems with them such as lighting, exposure and color.

This is then synced to your PC and you can then load it into a photo editor like LensFx and enhance it. If you then put the OneDrive app on your phone (Android and iPhone versions are available), it can automatically upload every shot you take to the online storage. If you have Windows 10, you have OneDrive built into the operating system and this provides online storage that is mirrored on your PC.

Search for LensFx in the Windows 10 Store app and install it on your PC. It is not perfect and there are some limitations in the free version, but it is cheap to buy and unlock all features. LensFx – Lens Flare Effects is an interesting app that does a lot more than its name suggests. A free app in the Store app in Windows 10 is all you need to create impressive photographs that will wow your friends on social media like Facebook and Instagram.
